Residential energy efficiency retrofits: potential unintended consequences

Text
English
Authors:
Matthew Collins, Seraphim Dempsey

Improving the energy efficiency of the residential building stock has increasingly been promoted by policy makers as a means of reducing energy demand in the residential sector. We review the literature on some non-energy impacts of energy efficiency retrofitting measures aimed at increasing the air tightness and thermal insulation of residential properties. Specifically, we review the impact of retrofitting measures on indoor pollutants, mould growth, attenuation of radio signal and overheating.

ADOPTING DECARBONIZATION POLICIES FOR THE BUILDINGS AND CONSTRUCTION SECTOR: Cost and Benefits

Text
English
Authors:
Peter Graham

The building sector is not on track to lower total greenhouse gas emissions. Given that emissions from the sector represent nearly 40% of global energy-and process-related emissions, this represents a serious challenge to keeping global warming to 1.5oC. The Buildings sector must therefore decarbonize. To support this goal, this report focuses on policy drivers for decarbonisation, and the costs and benefits associated with their implementation.

Energy integration and interaction between buildings and vehicles: A state-of-the-art review

Clean power production, buildings, and transportation are key areas for climate change mitigation. Their tighter integration decreases not only the emissions, but also the energy consumption of buildings and transportation. Energy integration and interactions between buildings and vehicles are dependent on the type of building, vehicle, and renewable energy system, as well as the local climatic conditions. The current academic literature does not provide a systematic analysis of this topic.
