US-GA-Atlanta-2017-Sustainable Building Ordinance
This is a case study of how Green building LEED Silver certification caused Sustainable development design standards to be amended.
On July 17, 2017, the Atlanta City Council passed an amendment to Chapter 75, Sustainable Development Design Standards, of the municipal code. The amendment requires that municipal projects (both new construction and renovation) that amount to at least 5,000 sq ft achieve LEED Silver Certification. Additionally, City-owned facilities are now required to be retrofitted and certified under LEED Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance (EB-O+M).
