A new study conducted by GBPN on the factors affecting the use of ESCO models for the retrofit of existing buildings in China identifies the main barriers to the development of the Chinese ESCO market and gives best-practice examples of ESCOs globally and investigates the feasibility of introducing those examples to China.

Highlight

Why buildings hold the key to a low-carbon future? The GBPN provides evidence that ambitious improvements in the energy performance of buildings can reduce their CO₂ emissions by one third by 2050 and sets out the necessary steps towards a "Deep market transformation". 

Energy use in buildings is responsible for more than 30% of global CO2 emissions and has a significant role to play in climate change mitigation, given  the large  potential  savings in  both new and existing  buildings.
