Low Carbon Residential Buildings Regulatory Reform

The Mayor of Samarinda Dr. H. Andi Harun and GBPN's Mei Batubara
Establish local coalitions to gather expertise on policy planning and policy implementation

PROJECT OVERVIEW

GBPN launched their joint collaboration with the Samarinda City Government and the University of 17 Augustus 1945 Samarinda (UNTAG) for policy development in low carbon residential buildings.

  • We are actively developing local coalitions to establish expertise on policy planning and policy implementation
  • Training and education programs have been developed and implemented to improve capacity building with the Samarinda Government

The Mayor of Samarinda (at the time) referred to GBPN’s commitment to policy development as a way to help the city “become a green residential champion in Indonesia and make it a more liveable city for all residents.”

GBPN will oversee the development of the Policy Roadmap for Samarinda City together with UNTAG’s Head of Architecture, Mr. Prasetyo. Samarinda is an iconic city that will serve as an example for other regions in Indonesia to follow.

Our Focus — Asia

By 2050 there will be 280 billion m2 more buildings than today — primarily in Asia.

Collectively, India, Indonesia and S.E. Asian Countries are already among the largest sources of building sector greenhouse emissions. GBPN’s aim is to collaboratively reform energy regulations and housing policy, focusing on the regions where we will have the biggest impact.

The way we build has to change — but change can’t happen without the right people.

That's why we're committed to bringing the right voices together at a local level.

In Asia we have already had significant recent success, delivering projects and forming active coalitions across Indonesia, Cambodia and India — with more to follow.

Our coalitions of experts and building practitioners work with governments to support, educate and build change; while our resources and insights are bringing the latest knowledge to the front-line.

We're enabling low-energy building practices to become mainstreamed; reducing emissions and improving the health and well-being of residents. We're mitigating the costs of today and tomorrow. Together we can decarbonise the Asia buildings sector from 2030.
